A Simi Valley man who allegedly shot his two dogs to death has been arrested on suspicion of felony animal cruelty, authorities said.
Rafael Calderon Jr., 49, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police and animal regulation officers found his two pit-bulls shot to death at his home on the 4500 block of Barnard Street in Simi Valley, according to a prepared statement from the Simi Valley Police Department released late Thursday night.
The dogs had been shot multiple times with a semi-automatic handgun in the back yard of the home, according to the statement.
Investigators are still looking into what motivated the shootings, said Simi Valley Police Department Spokesman Sgt. Adam Darough.
Calderon was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of animal cruelty. He was being held in jail this morning in lieu of $10,000 bail. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map
