How it Works
The live counter on our homepage changes at approximatly the rate that animals in shelters are put to death. How did we figure that out?
An estimated�3 to�4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in America's animal shelters each year because they are not wanted by anyone, anywhere. We used�3.5 million to be safe. (Reference: HSUS Pet Overpopulation)
Divide 3,500,000 by 365 to find out how many pets are killed each day (9589.04)
Divide 9589.04 by 24 to find out how many pets are killed each hour (399.543)
Divide the number of pets killed per hour by 60 to find out how many pets are killed per minute (6.66)
Divide�6.66 by 60 to find out how many pets are killed per second - that total is0.111
