Dog neglected, found with embedded rope collar Olivehurst, CA (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Sep 28, 2008 County: Yuba
Charges: Felony CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Guadalupe Quezada
A pet owner was arrested after his dog was found tied to a post so tightly that he was seriously injured and bleeding. Authorities have charged the owner with felony animal abuse after animal control nursed the dog back to health.
The young malamute mix, Al, has to remain in county custody until his owner's animal cruelty case is heard in court. Police say Al was tied to a post with a thin rope, and denied food, water or shelter from the sweltering heat. Investigators say his owner, Guadalupe Quezada, neglected him for three weeks.
Tipped off by concerned neighbors, animal control officers responded and found a disturbing scene.
The thin rope was tied to tightly that it ripped open Al's skin, causing deep, infected cuts around his neck that went untreated for weeks.
County authorities nursed Al back to health, and say he's healthy, despite being a bit skittish.
Quezada is facing charges of felony dog abuse.
The animal shelter caring for Al says that there is already somebody waiting to adopt the dog once the case is resolved. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map
