Charges: Felony CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Mary Palamarchuk
A Hamtramck woman accused of abusing or neglecting hundreds of cats she took into her home over the last decade was arraigned this morning in Wayne County Circuit Court.
Mary Palamarchuk, 48, is charged with one count of cruelty to 10 or more animals, a four-year felony. Her next court appearance is set for Feb. 5. Palamarchuk, who denies that she is cruel to animals, remains free on a $10,000 personal bond.
Investigators have said that Palamarchuk’s cats are carriers of an upper respiratory illness that spreads to strays she brings into her home. They said she has brought as many as 200 dead or dying cats into the Michigan Humane Society shelter on Chrysler in Detroit since 2000. She was arrested at the shelter on Jan. 4, 2010.
