Hoarding - 80 cats, 3, dogs
Mesa, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Nov 9, 2004
County: Maricopa

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Kendall Ann Leebelt

Wearing hazardous material-type clothing and masks, animal rescuers entered a Mesa apartment Tuesday afternoon to rescue an estimated 80 cats and three dogs living inside.

Conditions inside the apartment near Southern and Country Club are said to be "disgusting." Neighbors say that for the past several weeks, they've noticed a horrible smell coming from the apartment.

The woman who lives in the apartment told investigators she was trying to save the animals.

Dozens of pet carriers were brought in to transport the cats and dogs to safety. The woman living inside the apartment will likely face charges.
