    Case Report

    Homeless man allegedly seen beating his 4-month old German shepherd puppy on Ocean Beach has been arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty.

    Michael Doran, 27, allegedly picked up his puppy over his head, threw him to the sand and punched the animal's pelvis several times.

    The incident was seen by an officer with the U.S. Park Police and he arrested Doran. Doran faces a possible fine of $50,000 and six years in state prison.

    The puppy was taken to Pets Unlimited hospital where he is recovering from three fractures to its pelvic area and severe bruising.

    The Animal Care and Control officer Jen Richardson, says he should be fine with rest. He's in a lot of pain but should be OK.

    The court that tries Doran on the animal cruelty charge will decide custody of the puppy.
