Police are investigating a combination road rage-animal cruelty incident. Motorists on a street in Palmer on Jul 28 stopped to allow Canada geese to cross.
They told police that a green S-U-V, possibly a Land Rover, sped past the cars and ran over the geese.
One was killed and two were injured.
Police were unable to track down the vehicle. If the driver is found, police say he'll face animal cruelty charges because it appeared his action was deliberate.
Case UpdatesA driver has admitted to hitting the family of Canada geese crossing Shearer Street last week, Police Chief Robert P. Frydryk said.
"We're going to investigate to see if any charges should be filed," Frydryk said yesterday.
Frydryk said he plans to interview the man and the witness to the July 26 incident that killed one goose and injured two more.
The witness told police that cars were stopped, waiting for the geese to cross the road, when a man driving a green sports utility vehicle and talking on a cell phone sped past and struck the geese.
Frydryk said the driver is a professional who comes to town on business. He does not drive a sports utility vehicle. The chief declined to identify the man at this time. The driver could face an animal cruelty charge if his actions are proven to be deliberate.
The injured geese wandered into the woods and haven't been seen since. About two dozen geese live by the pond at Rondeau Ice Co. | Source: The Republican - Aug 3, 2005 Update posted on Aug 7, 2005 - 7:21AM |
