The poisoning death of two blue heeler cross dogs has devastated their Norlane owners. Ulladulla Street residents Kirsty Maguire and Danielle Woollett's six-year-old blue heeler cross border collie Lizzie and six-month-old blue heeler cross collie Harley died after they consumed poison baits on Aug 1.

Ms Maguire said her pets died painfully before she realised what had happened.

"We went for a walk on Monday afternoon and they were fine and then we came back Monday night and they were inside, they were just playing inside with each other and then Harley just jumped up on the couch and he started fitting," she said.

"We knew something wasn't right and my friend rang the vet and she was 40 minutes away, so she couldn't help us, and then he just died. We went out a couple of hours later and we came home later and our other dog Lizzie was dead too."

Ms Maguire said she was shocked by her pets' sudden deaths.

"It was really unexpected because they were happy and healthy on Monday afternoon when they were outside playing. We only brought them in at night because they were outside barking and it was the least we expected," she said.

"It was just knowing that they were dying and that we couldn't do anything to save them. It was just really heartbreaking."

But Ms Maguire said the prospect someone had deliberately poisoned the dogs made her loss even harder to bear.

"I've heard there is someone poisoning dogs and cats in the neighbourhood. One of the neighbour's dogs died and we think my dogs were baited to," she said.

"They meant everything, I had a dog last year that I had to put to sleep due to old age and after that they were just everything and to lose them like this makes me angry and sad."

Ms Maguire was so devastated she left her home to stay with her parents in Werribee.

"I just couldn't be here, it was just too hard to be here," she said.

Ms Maguire has since calmed down and said her main concern was to ensure no-one else lost their pets to the alleged baiting spree.

"I've just tried to move on, think that they're not suffering anymore and I've suggested a letter box drop so other people know to be careful with their dogs. It would be terrible if this happened to someone else, especially children," she said.
