On September 25, 2005, a stray reported to have collapsed in a yard and was on it's side groaning. The witnesses claimed that it appeared to be dying. The horse had reportedly been currently gelded and was a three year old bay. "It was the most emaciated horse we have ever seen in our many years of horse association". The horse had numerous gouges in its hide, blood ran from a too tight halter cutting into the flesh, and both severely protruding hips were both scored with a large deep abrasive wound. His gums were very pale and he had fungus scabbing throughout.
A neighbor woman came on a 4-wheeler and exclaimed, "There you are." She began kneading the horses belly, and said the horse had colicked. We asked whose horse it was and she would not say. Said some people had brought it to her trainer husband one week before-that they too were taken back when it arrived in such poor condition and told the owner they would not train it until it had fattened some, and would turn it loose so it could eat grass. However, she stated that her husband had freshly shod this horse, so apparently he either used it or intended on using it.
The horse's wounds were current and appeared to have been recently mistreated physically, in addition to starvation. The female hurried off to her home nearby for medication, an injection for prescription Benamine. While she was gone, one of the witnesses took several photos of the horse. The Sheriff's Office was contacted immediately but a deputy did not resond. The female took the horse home shortly afterwards. The woman stated that the horse's owner was in Idaho.
The following day Sheriff Anderson stated that a Deputy Thrasher had went to the property to investigate, and stated that the horse appeared to have been removed from the property. Case UpdatesTrial has been rescheduled for May 11, 2006. | Update posted on Apr 11, 2006 - 10:02AM |
